Works on our new store acquisition project at Derriford Hospital (University Hospitals Plymouth) commenced in January and are now well underway. With the closure of the existing Lloyds store, our client Walgreen Boots Alliance has entered into a partnership with the Trust and will be opening a new, modern outpatient pharmacy located more conveniently on the ground floor of the multi-storey car park.
The shell and core unit is undergoing a huge transformation, including the installation of mains water, mechanical and electrical services. New split-level ceilings (housing the services), high-spec flooring, and modern wall claddings will adorn the internal envelope of the store.
This coming week will see the installation of an automated dispensing robot situated within the pharmacy footprint. With the unit located above the lower-level car park, strengthening works to the floor structure have recently been carried out in readiness for the robot’s arrival. The completed sales area will offer a seated waiting area, consultation room, food chillers, gondola, and click-and-collect lockers. New to Boots, these lockers will allow the patient to download an app and collect prescriptions without the need to queue.
The finished scheme is due to be handed over to the client for merchandising towards the end of March, with the store officially opening in early April.
With thanks to scheme partners Underwood and Carpenter – project management, DSB – cost consultants, and our in-house electrical and architectural services.
